Christmas Spirit Continues

Tags: , , ,

Based on Mr. Maroon’s contribution regarding Christmas, you might have gotten the impression that he doesn’t care for the Christmas season. However, you’d be wrong! He’s actually the one that will encourage more decorating around our house. He had the idea to host a Christmas party at our house for friends and family back in Texas. This year is no different….

Mr. Maroon spent several hours out in the front yard on Saturday to put up lights on the house. Before you throw your arms up in the air over the expense of outdoor lights, let me assure you that the engineer in him carefully calculated the cost. Then, on Sunday we were pondering with Mini Maroon #1 how to spend the afternoon. After a few uhhhs and hmmms from the peanut gallery, Daddy announced that he had a plan. I’ll let the picture speak for itself…

We had pondered the idea of adding a door wreath to our décor, but never bit the bullet to go pay for it. Enter the ever crafty Mr. Maroon to get the best of both worlds… Delightful addition to the front door at a cost $0. Everything came from our backyard. Love that frugal mindset!!

I never put up lights and last year my little daughter asked, “how come the other houses have lights?” I thought I would be funny and said, “those houses are christmas houses and come with the lights, we didn’t buy a christmas house.” A few days later we were at my parents and my daughter was crying and I asked what was wrong and my little cute daughter said she wanted to move to a christmas house but was sad because she liked her friends in the neighborhood. I never felt so many hard glares at me in my life from my parents and wife. Next day the lights went up…but I’m still trying to get rid of the worst dad of the year title.

Oh man!! That’s rough. Those little boogers really can contort what we say. I am very impressed that she saved the meltdown for your parents house so that she could get the full dramatic effect. Quite intelligent if you ask me!

I am just a christmas tree type of gal, but I love it when people go all out and put up decorations outside their home. Love the door….looks rich and english.

Thanks for the compliments! I don’t know about English, but I think Mr. Maroon did a bang up job!

Nice wreath! 🙂 We put up some lights inside, but nothing outside. It’s too cold…

Speaking of temperature, we hung a fake wreath a couple years ago. We had a glass door in front of the wooden one at that house. The Texas heat managed to concentrate behind the glass and basically melted the wreath. Not completely, but enough that it looked horribly wilted. Crazy weather swings!

We put lights up on our porch too! This is the first time we have ever decorated, and I love it!

I like outside lighting. Makes the doldrums of coming home in the dark a little bit brighter. Glad you added it to your decor this year!

We don’t do outside lights but Mrs. T just made an outdoor wreath out of things she found on the street (pine cones, etc).

So glad to hear that we aren’t the only ones that make decorations from the stuff we can find outside. Did I mention that’s all FREE?!?

Loving the front door AND the wreath! I’m amazed that Mr. Maroon just made that!

Very impressive wreath. Looks better than my store-bought one. I’ll have to copy your idea next year!

I agree that it looks great. And I didn’t have anything to do with making it. The best part is that Mr. Maroon had a great time just spending the time to make it with Mini #1. The beautiful wreath is only a by-product.
